Cardinal Bernardin's Stations of the Cross by Eugene Kennedy download in ePub, pdf, iPad

Pilate then decreed that what they demanded should be done. After that he was seen by five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still alive, although some have fallen asleep. When confronted with social problems associated with great poverty, some people withdraw into the comfort and security of their own homes, overwhelmed by their perceived powerlessness.

The greatest achievement is to live as a faith-filled brother or sister of Jesus, the savior. For the person of faith, despite all the suffering, it is ultimately both the symbol and cause of victory. Jesus learns that his beloved friend, Lazarus, is seriously ill, but he waits two days before setting out for Bethany, where Lazarus lived.

Pilate was surprised that Jesus should have died so soon. If we are to share in that victory, we, too, must be willing to take up our cross and follow him.

They observed the Sabbath

There was also his tunic, but this tunic was woven in one piece from top to bottom and had no seam. The pivotal point of our faith is the fact that God redeemed us by becoming one of us. In recent months the cross, my brothers, has never been more difficult or sweeter to me.

These women had followed Jesus when he was in Galilee and attended to his needs. He was another who looked forward to the reign of God. He released the one they asked for, who had been thrown in prison for insurrection and murder, and delivered Jesus up to their wishes. They stuck a sponge soaked in this wine on some hyssop and raised it to his lips. They saw the tomb and how his body was buried.

There were also many others who had come up with him to Jerusalem. My spiritual journey goes back for many years.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. You are being saved by it at this very moment if you hold fast to it as I preached it to you. It was through his Passion, death, and resurrection that he reconciled us with his father. The greatest adventure is the journey into his kingdom.

He was bold enough to seek

He was bold enough to seek an audience with Pilate and urgently requested the body of Jesus. They observed the Sabbath as a day of rest, in accordance with the law. But Jesus turned suffering and death into victory. It is rather a gift that is to be lived, to be put into practice, if it is to be alive and effective.
